India presently has 1.1 billion people and experts predict it will overtake China to become the world’s most populated country by 2026. Less then 1% of the population profess to be of the Christian faith. Because India has close ties with the United States, and because English is the official language, India has become a prime target of opportunity within the 10/40 window to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.
MMS International presently operates five Leadership Training Centers (LTC) within the borders of India. From those locations evangelists are trained in the scriptures and equipped with the resources necessary to proclaim the gospel of Christ to citizens in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. The centers are located as follows:
Two major evangelism programs are presently underway at the Leadership Training Centers. The first is Omega Good News Operation (OGNO). This is a one year course of which half is spent in the classrooms, and the remainder spent in the villages. A primary requirement for graduation is to plant a new home church in a village previously without any Christian presence.
The second program is Evangelism Explosion (EE). The goal of EE is train 50,000 Christians in evangelism and then to have them witness to 600,000 non-believers. As of Fall 2007, 23274 evangelists have been trained and 174709 non-believers have heard the gospel message.
As of Fall 2007, the Leadership Training Centers, MMS International, and their partners were responsible for establishing over 2000 home churches in remote villages.
